I started a book group in London in 2005 and it is still going strong with or without me. I learnt that the best way to start something new is to do it quietly and with a friend. No fanfares. No mass invites. In this social network age, it is easy to start a revolution and just as easy to start a book group. I began with a handful of colleagues and we read The Time-traveller's wife. Some six years later and the group still meets every month. I have read books I would never have got around to if I hadn't been in the group and I have kept some good friendships going. The latest book is Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons which has one of my favourite book quotes:
"She liked Victorian novels. They were the only kind of novel you could read while eating an apple."
