A fallen angel in the Retiro

Another fountain for my collection! This is the only statue to the devil to be found in Europe.

It is suitably gothic and the creatures that spurt water are nice and grisly, ecven on a sunny day.

This is a favourite meeting point at the south of the park as it is near a cafe and toilet! Essential factors for picnic planning.

We met here for our March book group meeting where we discussed The Solitude of Prime Numbers by the Italian writer Paolo Giordano whilst sharing a picnic in glorious sunshine. The food was good and the company was exemplary. The conversation was by turns literary and teacherly as we shared our experiences of teaching English in Madrid. One more picnic book group for me before London!
