I take my friends to meet her! She is a legend in Ricardo Ortiz and I cannot pass the shop without calling in to say hola! She waves at me across the street when I am waiting for a bus. She taps on the window if I try to walk by. She greets me with warmth and interest every time I stop by.
We have hugged. We have danced. We have sung together. She has taught me some real Spanish and has helped me feel at home in this tiny corner of Madrid. I will never forget her and will raise a glass for her in August when she celebrates her 80th birthday.
