Spring at last!

Pumpkins and hydrangeas are growing in the Retiro

Spring arrived with a frosty glower on Sunday 21 March and the weather is typically unpredictable. I took advantage of a a free afternoon and went to the Crystal Palace in the Retiro Park on Monday.

I was astounded by the sight of pumpkins nestling amongst blue hydrangeas, summer roses bursting with scent, tiny dancing daffodils and meek lily of the valley peeking through tender grass all overlooked by a fir tree and cherry blossoms. A garden has appeared that reveals all four seasons at the same time.

A comment on climate change? A quirky gardener's jest? Who knows.
