A night out with George

George Clooney in Up in the Air at The Scoop, London

The nights are drawing in and a benefit for Londoners is the number of open air film screenings that are taking place. The Scoop is showing films for four weeks and I was happy to spend a chilly evening with Y watching George Clooney in Up in the Air. The Scoop is a purpose-built ampitheatre alongside City Hall near Tower Bridge. The films are popular and you need to get there early to get a good seat. Ideally you need a cushion, flask of coffee and snacks and maybe someone to cuddle up to.

I really liked the film which was intelligently scripted and beautifully acted. The subject matter is so appropriate for these difficult times as organisations across London are making plans to cut budgets and jobs. My eyes were often drawn to all those brightly lit offices that face the Thames and I found myself wondering about the people who inhabit them. Chilled by the messages of the film - about home, family and work - and by the soft icy river breezes, we wandered to a cosy bar and warmed up with Irish coffees and some philosophical chat.

  1. Sounds lovely. Mind you, I'm sure an evening actually spent with George Clooney would be equally fun!! One day, eh?
